My real name is Thomas, but everyone calls me Balu. I am what people call a generalist or “Jack of all trades, master of none (but oftentimes better than master of one)”. I love to tinker with and learn new things all the time. The issue being “new” here, because I tend to move on to other projects faster than you can say “squirrel”. Since my first language is German, that is a difficult word to pronounce by the way.
Usually these things revolve around computers, but can be only remotely related too. One time I randomly bought a knitting machine from the 80s because I wanted to know how they work (plus someone created a computer interface to control patterns). Currently I’m fascinated by bees, but exploring more of The Unknown is always just one step away…
The nickname
I got the nickname “Balu” all the way back in school when a friend mentioned that I dance like the bear from Disney’s Jungle Book. Since I love the character and his “Look for the bare necessities in life” motto, the name stuck. It also helps that I have a similar figure, I guess…
To me it is important that I grow older, but never grow up. Life is too precious to take everything seriously.
